Nicholas Pooran was the first player selected in The Hundred 2024 draft, with four other West Indians also going for the top price of GBP 125,000. Northern Superchargers picked Pooran, while London Spirit selected Andre Russell and Shimron Hetmyer. Rovman Powell and Kieron Pollard were the other Caribbean players chosen in the highest bracket, joining Trent Rockets and Southern Brave, respectively.
Several top players, both English and overseas, went unpicked in the draft. Jason Roy, Mark Wood, David Warner, and Tim David were among those not selected. India’s star players such as Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Deepti Sharma also did not find any takers, along with Deandra Dottin and Suzie Bates.
Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were among several high-profile players not picked by any team, while teammate Naseem Shah was selected at the highest price by Birmingham Phoenix. Welsh Fire picked Tom Kohler-Cadmore in the top bracket and signed Shaheen Afridi for GBP 100,000. Imad Wasim was picked by Trent Rockets for GBP 100,000.
Smriti Mandhana (Brave) and Richa Ghosh (Phoenix) were the two Indian players selected, while Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu was picked by the Oval Invincibles. Amy Jones was the first pick in the women’s draft, going to Phoenix, Manchester Originals got Beth Mooney as their second pick and also roped in Sophie Molineux. Ashleigh Gardner was picked by Rockets, and Superchargers bagged Annabel Sutherland.
The fourth edition of The Hundred will get underway on July 23 with Oval Invincibles facing Birmingham Phoenix in both men’s and women’s competitions.
