By Warrant is a Tamil crime thriller web series that takes viewers into the challenging world of policing, crime investigation and the consequences of unchecked power. The series premiered on ZEE5 on May 22, 2026, and features a total of eight episodes. It is available in Tamil and carries a U/A 16+ certification.
The series follows Koattai Karuppusamy, a soft-spoken police constable whose experiences inside a harsh police system gradually change his personality. What begins as a struggle to earn respect develops into a much darker journey involving forgotten warrant cases, violence, criminal investigations and a custodial death.
Warrant Web Series Story
The central character of Warrant is Koattai Karuppusamy, a small-town constable who finds it difficult to gain recognition within the police force. He faces humiliation and pressure while trying to perform his duties.
His life takes a major turn after a violent incident. As Karuppu becomes involved in investigating old and forgotten warrant cases, his approach to policing starts changing. The once-quiet constable gradually becomes a feared figure who is willing to use force while dealing with criminals.
The story becomes more complicated when a custodial death brings questions about Karuppu’s actions and the larger justice system. The series therefore moves beyond a conventional police investigation and explores the consequences of power, violence and personal transformation.

The series features Prasanth Pandiyaraj, Balaji Sakthivel, Kaali Venkat, Aruldoss, Namritha MV, Aruljothi, Chaya Devi, Meena, Kousalya and Vaiyapuri, among others.

Warrant and the World of Vilangu
Warrant is presented as a story from the world of Vilangu, connecting it to the crime-drama universe associated with the earlier Tamil series. The new series places greater attention on Koattai Karuppusamy and his experiences within the police system.
Rather than focusing only on solving individual cases, Warrant examines how repeated humiliation, violence and authority can affect a police officer’s actions. This gives the series a character-driven dimension alongside its crime-thriller elements.
What Makes Warrant Interesting?
One of the key elements of Warrant is its focus on the transformation of its central character. Karuppu begins as someone who struggles to command respect, but circumstances push him towards a much more aggressive approach.
The series also combines police investigation with questions surrounding justice and accountability. As the story progresses, the distinction between enforcing the law and abusing power becomes an important part of the conflict.
The eight-episode format allows the story to gradually develop Karuppu’s character while introducing different criminal cases and challenges.
Warrant Genre and Language
Warrant belongs to the Crime and Thriller genres and is primarily available in Tamil. The official ZEE5 listing gives the series a U/A 16+ rating.
