Around 800 counterfeit Apple devices have reportedly been confiscated in Ireland. According to a report by Irish radio station Newstalk, the country’s police revealed that these items, including AirPods and iPhone accessories, valued at approximately $173,904 (over 1.4 crore), were seized in County Mayo. The raids, which took place earlier this week, targeted businesses in various Irish towns, including Castlebar, Westport, Ballinrobe, and Claremorris.
This joint operation, involving the local police crime unit, the Garda National Immigration Bureau, and other agencies, is still under investigation with no arrests made so far, according to the report. Counterfeiting continues to be a major issue, reportedly costing the EU economy around €85 billion ($92.4 billion) each year. This recent seizure follows a comparable operation in Northern Ireland in May 2024, where counterfeit items valued at $750,000 were seized.
