A.P. Government Committed to Strengthen Healthcare Infrastructure: Minister

Andhra Pradesh Health Minister [Insert Name] reaffirmed the state government’s strong commitment to strengthening the healthcare infrastructure across the state. Speaking at a press briefing held in Amaravati on Sunday, the minister emphasized that improving medical facilities and ensuring accessible healthcare for all citizens remains a top priority for the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led administration.

The minister stated that the government has already undertaken significant steps toward developing world-class healthcare services, especially in rural and semi-urban areas where access to medical facilities has traditionally been limited.

Major Investment in Government Hospitals

Highlighting key investments made by the state, the minister noted that the government has allocated substantial funds to upgrade existing government hospitals. More than ₹8,000 crore has been earmarked for the modernisation of primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare institutions.

“Many district hospitals are being transformed with new diagnostic equipment, modular operation theatres, and ICU units. We are not only upgrading infrastructure but also ensuring that quality healthcare reaches the last mile,” he added.

Nadu-Nedu in Healthcare

The flagship ‘Nadu-Nedu’ initiative, which has shown remarkable progress in the education sector, has now been extended to the health sector as well. Under this initiative, more than 10,000 healthcare facilities, including Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and district hospitals, are being revamped with a focus on improving both infrastructure and service delivery.

The minister revealed that Phase I of the health sector Nadu-Nedu program is nearing completion, with over 1,145 PHCs already renovated and upgraded with state-of-the-art facilities. “We want patients to walk into a PHC and feel confident about the care they receive,” the minister said.

Recruitment of Medical Professionals

To ensure the effective functioning of the upgraded healthcare infrastructure, the government is also addressing the shortage of skilled medical personnel. The Andhra Pradesh Medical Recruitment Board has fast-tracked the appointment of doctors, nurses, lab technicians, and paramedical staff.

“In the last two years alone, over 13,000 healthcare personnel have been recruited. We are aiming to fill all vacant positions by the end of this fiscal year,” the minister mentioned.

The government is also encouraging young medical graduates to serve in rural areas through incentive-based postings, helping bridge the urban-rural gap in healthcare delivery.

Focus on Medical Education and New Colleges

The state is also making strides in medical education by establishing new medical colleges in underserved regions. Eleven new medical colleges are under construction, including institutions in Paderu, Machilipatnam, Eluru, and Nandyal. These colleges are expected to increase the number of MBBS seats and boost the availability of trained medical professionals in the long run.

“This is not just about infrastructure but about capacity-building in the health sector. We are committed to creating a healthcare ecosystem where both treatment and medical education are of the highest standards,” said the minister.

Public Health Campaigns and Preventive Care

Alongside infrastructure, the government has intensified public health campaigns focusing on maternal and child health, vaccination, and non-communicable diseases. The ‘Jagananna Aarogya Suraksha’ program, a statewide health screening initiative, has been instrumental in early diagnosis and disease prevention.

Over 2 crore citizens have been screened under this initiative in recent months, helping detect health issues such as diabetes, hypertension, and anemia at an early stage.

Telemedicine and Digital Health Initiatives

The state government is also embracing technology to make healthcare more accessible. Through the launch of telemedicine hubs in partnership with private hospitals and AIIMS Mangalagiri, remote consultations have become a reality for patients in far-flung areas.

“The pandemic taught us the value of remote care, and we are now using technology to ensure continuous care through digital platforms. E-health cards and digital health records are part of this ecosystem,” the minister stated.

Collaboration with Private Sector

The Andhra Pradesh government is also encouraging public-private partnerships to strengthen the health ecosystem. Several diagnostic centers and specialty hospitals are being developed in collaboration with reputed private players under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.

These collaborations are expected to reduce the burden on government hospitals while increasing patient access to specialized treatments.

Minister Reaffirms Commitment

Concluding the press interaction, the health minister assured the people of Andhra Pradesh that the government will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the state’s healthcare infrastructure becomes a model for the rest of the country.

“Our vision is clear — to create a healthcare system that is inclusive, efficient, and sustainable. We are working relentlessly to turn that vision into a reality,” the minister concluded.
