Former Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof announced her retirement from cricket on Thursday, ending an illustrious 18-year career at the age of 32. Despite not achieving a century in international cricket, Maroof leaves a lasting legacy as Pakistan’s leading run-scorer in both ODIs and T20Is, amassing 3369 runs in ODIs and 2893 runs in T20Is. She also holds the record for the most fifties in both formats, with 21 in ODIs and 12 in T20Is.
Making her international debut at just 15 years old in 2006, Maroof took over the captaincy of the national team in T20Is in 2016 and ODIs a year later. Under her leadership, Pakistan saw success, winning 16 out of 34 ODIs and 27 out of 62 T20Is, boasting the best win percentage among Pakistani women captains.
Despite facing numerous injuries she featured in eight world cups and was part of the team that clinched the Asian Games gold medals in 2010 and 2014. Known for her batting prowess and fielding skills, Maroof also contributed with her part-time legspin, claiming 80 international wickets.

Maroof acknowledged the PCB’s implementation of the first-ever parental policy, which allowed her to balance motherhood with representing her country.
Maroof extended her appreciation to the fans for their constant support and to her fellow players, whom she considers family. She cherished the camaraderie shared both on and off the field and expressed gratitude for the memories created throughout her cricketing journey.
