Ingredients

  • 4 medium potatoes (boiled)
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese cubes or grated cheese
  • 2 tablespoons corn flour
  • 2 tablespoons bread crumbs
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 green chilli (finely chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon coriander leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon chilli flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano (optional)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup bread crumbs for coating
  • Oil for deep frying

Preparation

First, boil the potatoes until soft. Peel the skin and mash them nicely in a large bowl without any lumps.

Add chopped onion, green chilli, coriander leaves, chilli flakes, black pepper, oregano, salt, corn flour, and 2 tablespoons bread crumbs. Mix everything well until it forms a smooth dough-like mixture.

Take small portions of the potato mixture and flatten them in your palm. Place a small cube of mozzarella cheese in the center.

Carefully close the edges and roll it into a smooth ball shape. Make sure the cheese is fully covered, otherwise it may leak while frying.

Repeat the same process for all the balls.

Coating Process

In a small bowl, mix all-purpose flour and water to make a smooth slurry. It should be slightly thick.

Take each potato ball, dip it in the slurry, and then roll it in bread crumbs.

For extra crispiness, repeat the coating once again by dipping in slurry and bread crumbs a second time.

Keep the coated balls in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes. This helps them hold their shape better while frying.

Frying Method

Heat oil in a deep pan on medium flame.

Once the oil is hot, gently slide the potato cheese balls into the oil. Do not overcrowd the pan.

Fry them on medium flame until they become golden brown and crispy from all sides.

Remove them using a slotted spoon and place them on tissue paper to absorb excess oil.

Air Fryer / Oven Option

For a healthier version, brush the balls lightly with oil and air fry at 180°C for 10–12 minutes.

In an oven, bake at 200°C for 15 minutes, turning halfway.
