How to make Prawn Koliwada Recipe

Prawn Koliwada is a popular Indian appetizer, known for its spicy and tangy flavors. Here’s a simple recipe for you to try:


  • 500 grams of medium-sized prawns, cleaned and deveined
  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish
  • Lemon wedges for serving

For the marinade of Prawn koliwada:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the gram flour, rice flour, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt, and lemon juice. Mix well to form a smooth paste.

For frying:

  1. Heat oil in a deep frying pan or kadhai over medium heat.
  2. Dip each prawn into the marinade, ensuring it is coated well.
  3. Carefully drop the marinated prawns into the hot oil and fry until they turn golden brown and crisp. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
  4. Once fried, remove the prawns using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.


  1. Garnish the fried prawns with chopped coriander leaves.
  2. Serve hot with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce or chutney.
