PCIe Resizable BAR (Base Address Register) enhances the communication between your graphics card’s video memory and the processor, potentially boosting gaming performance. This feature, however, was initially exclusive to Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 30 series. Now, a new mod has made it possible for slightly older cards from the RTX 20 and GTX 16 series to also benefit from this performance enhancement.
The “NvStrapsReBar” tool, available on GitHub, modifies recent UEFI/BIOS systems (the firmware displayed on your boot screen before Windows starts) to enable ReBAR on these older graphics cards. This mod is built upon the foundation of another well-known mod, ReBarUEFI, which extends ReBAR support to processors dating back to 2011.
Although the new mod requires a bit of technical know-how, particularly in editing registry files, it should be manageable for those with a moderate level of tech expertise. However, it’s worth noting that the mod’s compatibility is somewhat limited compared to the original, with the popular GTX 10 series notably excluded, as highlighted by VideoCardz.com.
Nevertheless, considering that the GTX 1650 and RTX 2060 rank as the second and third most popular GPUs among gamers according to the latest Steam hardware survey, this mod has the potential to provide a performance boost to a significant number of users.
