Christopher Nolan won his first ever Academy Award for directing historical drama ‘Oppenheimer’. Moments after he bagged the trophy for Best Director, the filmmaker was back on stage to receive the award for Best Film. ‘Oppenheimer’ was named Best Movie at the 96th Academy Awards. This 2023 film, has not just swept major awards this season but was also a box office money spinner, earning $957 million globally. “We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here. But to know that you think I’m a meaningful part of it means the world to me,” the filmmaker said in his acceptance speech.

Oppenheimer brought the much deserved Best Actor honor for Cillian Murphy, who was nominated along with Bradley Cooper — Maestro, Colman Domingo — Rustin, Paul Giamatti — The Holdovers and Jeffrey Wright — American Fiction. In his speech, Cillian shared, “We made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb. And for better or for worse, we’re all living in Oppenheimer’s world. So I would really like to dedicate this to the peacemakers, everywhere.” Emma Stone took home the trophy for her performance in ‘Poor Things’. The actress gave a shout out to her daughter in her speech and said, “I know I have to wrap up, but I really want to just thank my family, my mom, my brother Spencer, my dad, my husband Dave, I love you so much. And most importantly, my daughter, who’s going to be 3 in three days and has turned our lives technicolor. I love you bigger than the whole sky, my girl.”

Oscars 2024 will forever be etched in Robert Downey Jr.’s memory as he clinched his first-ever victory. His portrayal of Rear Adm. Lewis Strauss in ‘Oppenheimer’ earned him the coveted honor.
