Mohammed Shami, who last played competitive cricket during the World Cup in November, underwent surgery in London on Monday to address his Achilles tendon issue, which has been troubling him since the tournament. Shami expects a gradual recovery process but remains hopeful of returning to the field soon. He shared this update on social media, accompanied by a photo.
“Looking forward to getting back on my feet,” Shami expressed in his social media post.
Having missed the South Africa tour, the home T20I series against Afghanistan, and the ongoing England Test series, Shami’s absence from the Indian Premier League (IPL) is now confirmed. His availability for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup in June is also uncertain. Before opting for surgery, Shami consulted specialists in London, following a recommendation from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
In other news, the victorious Indian team, after their recent win over England in Ranchi, has been granted a four-day break. They will reconvene in Dharamsala on March 3 for the final Test, which begins on March 7. India currently leads the five-Test series 3-1.
