Apple’s upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Air, set to launch next month, could include a mini-LED display like the one in the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
Analyst Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) shared this information on the social media platform X. Young disclosed that the forthcoming 12.9-inch iPad Air will use surplus mini-LED display panels from the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro production. This decision will enhance the user experience by offering increased brightness for HDR content, deeper blacks, and a better contrast ratio.
The 10.9-inch iPad Air will maintain its standard LCD panel, as the unavailability of 10.9-inch mini-LED display panels makes it likely that this smaller model will continue with the same technology. Meanwhile, the upcoming iPad Pro models are rumored to adopt OLED displays, providing even higher contrast ratios and true blacks.
New iPad Models Expected in May
The next-generation iPad Pro tablets and the new iPad Air models are anticipated to be officially announced in May.
What to Expect from New iPads
The new iPad Pro models are anticipated to come equipped with M3 chips, OLED displays, a slimmer design, and potentially MagSafe charging. The iPad Air line will include a larger 12.9-inch model featuring an M2 chip. Additionally, a new Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil are also expected. The iPad Pro models may see a price increase, with the 12.9-inch model projected to start around $1,500. In contrast, the 12.9-inch iPad Air with an M2 processor and traditional display will offer a more budget-friendly option.
In addition to the new iPads, Apple may unveil a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro alongside the launch of the new iPad models. The new keyboard could have a partially aluminum enclosure, a larger trackpad, and other design modifications. A new Apple Pencil may also debut on the same day as the new iPad models.
Apple is also rumored to refresh the base iPad and iPad mini later in 2024.
