Preparation of Aloo Masala Sandwich:
Ingredients:
- 4 slices of bread (white, wheat, or multigrain)
- 2 medium-sized potatoes, boiled, peeled, and mashed
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 small tomato, finely chopped
- 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional, adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon oil or butter
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
- Tomato ketchup or chutney (optional)
Instructions:
- Heat oil or butter in a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and chopped green chili (if using). Sauté for another minute until the raw smell disappears.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes until the spices are well combined.
- Add the mashed potatoes to the pan and mix thoroughly with the spice mixture. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors meld together. Adjust seasoning if needed.
- Turn off the heat and let the potato masala mixture cool down slightly.
- Take two slices of bread and spread a layer of the potato masala evenly on each slice.
- Place the remaining two slices of bread on top to make sandwiches.
- Heat a sandwich maker or a panini press. If using a pan, heat it over medium heat.
- Lightly butter the outer side of each sandwich and place them on the sandwich maker or panini press. If using a pan, place the sandwiches on the heated pan.
- Cook the sandwiches until they turn golden brown and crisp on both sides. If using a pan, flip the sandwiches halfway through to ensure even cooking.
- Once done, remove the sandwiches from the heat and let them cool for a minute.
- Cut the sandwiches diagonally into halves or quarters.
- Serve hot Aloo Masala Sandwiches with tomato ketchup or chutney of your choice. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves for added freshness.
