The Department of Tourism is organizing a three-day international surfing festival at Varkala-Edava beach, commencing on Friday, highlighting Kerala as a vibrant adventure tourism destination. Actor and surfing athlete Sudev Nair will inaugurate the event at 7 am, with Tourism Additional Director (General) Vishnu Raj presiding over the function. This marks the country’s first international surfing festival of the year and will see the participation of 100 domestic and foreign contestants, concluding on Sunday.
Key Figures and Prize Details
Heading the judging panel for the competitions is Rory Symes, representing the International Surfing Association from Australia. At the valedictory function, Kerala Tourism Secretary Biju K will distribute prizes to the winners. Also in attendance will be Tourism Additional Director (General) Vishnu Raj and Tourism Director PB Nooh.
Prize money for the winning team in the international category is set at Rs 1 lakh, with the runners-up receiving Rs 50,000. In the groms category, the winner will be awarded Rs 15,000, while the open category winner will receive Rs 20,000.
