Minister Nara Lokesh to Lay Foundation Stone for LG Manufacturing Unit in Andhra Pradesh

Amaravati, May 8, 2025 – In a major boost to industrial development and job creation in Andhra Pradesh, Industries and IT Minister Nara Lokesh will lay the foundation stone for a new LG Electronics manufacturing unit on Thursday. The proposed plant, set to be constructed in Krishnapatnam, is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for the youth of the state.

The move is being hailed as a strategic step toward addressing unemployment concerns raised by citizens during Lokesh’s extensive Yuva Galam Padayatra, a public outreach initiative that covered over 4,000 kilometers across Andhra Pradesh.

LG Unit to Transform Industrial Landscape in Krishnapatnam

The upcoming LG unit is projected to be one of the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in the state in recent years. Spread across 200 acres, the facility will manufacture home appliances, electronic components, and smart devices for domestic as well as international markets.

The company has committed to an initial investment of ₹2,500 crore, with plans to scale operations further based on demand and infrastructure support.

“This foundation stone is not just for a factory; it is a cornerstone for the economic future of our youth,” said Nara Lokesh during a press briefing ahead of the ceremony.

Job Creation: A Promise in Action

According to government estimates, the LG unit is expected to generate 5,000 direct jobs and an additional 10,000 indirect jobs through allied services, logistics, and small-scale supplier industries.

Lokesh emphasized that locals will be given priority in recruitment. Special skill development training programs are being planned in partnership with the Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation (APSDC) to prepare youth for roles in electronics assembly, machinery operation, and technical support.

“Every young man and woman who aspires to work with dignity in their own homeland should get the opportunity. This project brings hope and possibilities,” he said.

Yuva Galam Padayatra: The Driving Force Behind the Initiative

The idea for this initiative gained momentum during Lokesh’s Yuva Galam Padayatra, during which he directly interacted with thousands of unemployed graduates, diploma holders, and skilled workers.

In regions like Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra, many expressed frustration over the lack of local employment opportunities, forcing them to migrate to metro cities or even abroad for survival.

Lokesh assured during the padayatra that job creation and industrial investment would be his top priorities, and this LG project is being seen as a fulfillment of that commitment.

Government–Corporate Partnership for Youth Empowerment

The Andhra Pradesh government has extended several incentives to LG Electronics, including:

  • Land allotment at subsidized rates
  • 24×7 electricity and water supply guarantees
  • Tax rebates under the AP Industrial Development Policy
  • Single-window clearance for all approvals

In return, LG has signed an MoU promising to hire at least 80% of its workforce from within the state, and to offer internship and training programs in association with local engineering and polytechnic colleges.

Education–Industry Collaboration to be Strengthened

To further enhance employability, Lokesh announced plans to upgrade curricula in government technical institutes, making them more industry-aligned.

“We are in talks with companies like LG, Samsung, and Foxconn to design skill-based training modules that directly lead to jobs,” said Lokesh. A dedicated Electronics Manufacturing Training Center is expected to be launched in Nellore district within the next six months.

Boost to Local Economy and Infrastructure

The setting up of the LG unit is also expected to revitalize the local economy, creating business opportunities for small vendors, construction workers, hospitality providers, and transport services. Road infrastructure leading to the industrial zone is already being upgraded under the AP Industrial Corridor Development Scheme.

Real estate activity has also picked up in nearby towns such as Nellore, Kavali, and Gudur, as demand rises for housing and rental spaces.

Public Reactions and Political Significance

The announcement has sparked positive responses from local youth, business communities, and educational institutions. Social media is abuzz with messages thanking the government for finally addressing the long-standing demand for job-oriented investments.

However, opposition parties have called it a “poll gimmick”, questioning the timing of the project announcement with elections around the corner. Lokesh dismissed the criticism, stating, “Development cannot wait for elections. It is our duty to deliver progress every single day.”

Conclusion: A Turning Point for Andhra’s Youth

The foundation stone ceremony for the LG Electronics unit is not just a symbolic event—it marks a turning point in Andhra Pradesh’s industrial journey and a concrete step toward youth empowerment and economic self-reliance. Minister Nara Lokesh’s proactive approach, grounded in real public concerns gathered during his padayatra, is being seen as a refreshing model of people-driven governance.
